Not really, notice how is just becoming big as dubstep becomes mainstream. He is what is wrong with dubstep. Back a few years ago when dubstep was mostly good tracks he wasnt that big, but now as more people listen to it he becomes more into dubstep instead of what he used to produce(which was actually decent) and just because his name is on it people listen to it. Just like all of these "greatest hits" radio stations that play shit mainstream insanley overplayed music.
I don't know if he's really changing much but w/e. People are always evolving. He went from punk to dubstep/electro and house and definitely brought his own style.
anyway, I don't wanna get miles off topic here on pinkbike. You either like someones music or you don't. Kind of tired of people hating on someone for going "mainstream" I get kind of sad when it happens but oh well. I guess it's good to see an artists succeed but sometimes they just seem like puppets.
It seems like he's on a mission. Although I don't enjoy his style, I can't deny that he absolutely slays and would love to see him in more comps. that are out of his normal DJ scene because well... he's different to watch and I feel like he's going to learn some messed up stuff.
I'm just not a fan of tuck no-handers and the constant barspins/x-ups although I do appreciate how tech they are. And yea, hopefully he does something about that because that was severely disappointing, haha. So much hype behind him at Joyride and he didn't even get the chance to prove himself.
He does have quite a street orientated style when he rides but the more he rides the big comps in Canada and America the more dirt orientated his riding will become. I still think that when it when it comes to an event like Joyride that he doesn't really have anything on Semenuk but who does?
You've got to remember where sam comes from- Colchester, UK- not a hill for miles. Hardly a surprise he's so good riding street, park and dirt. I think it's incredible how well he's done in the slopestyle events. Good luck in 2012 dude- winter training + thicker sidewalls = crankworx happiness.
You've got a point there but to be honest, why doesn't he just build some huge drops and dirt jumps from wood? He has all that land next to his jump so I'm sure he could do something like that. I'm not putting him down as he is my favourite UK rider, I've watched him ride and have followed him since he put up the 'December 2009' video on youtube but I still think it will be another 2 years until he wins Crankworx
I'm sure there must be a reason why he doesn't have a bigger set-up himself. Mind you he did pretty good with his old garden ressy which makes samland look like Whistler! He strikes me as a person who likes to get on the road, see everywhere and ride everything, whether it be big trails, street, his van or some crappy little park in Suffolk! He's a different animal from Semenuk, but equally talented in my eyes- first to bike flip an mtb, first to front flip drop in, and he was the first person I saw perform a proper dumped 3- I believe he named them darkside 3s as the term dumped wasn't really coined yet. He's consistent but also pioneering...
The Crankworx win will never be a certainty- Messere, Montgomery, Semenuk could be something else next year- Plus he's got a shed load of hungry UK talent biting at his heels to keep him honest! (Samson, Nangle, Pace, etc). 2012 could be epic.
I like the fact he doesn't need a big set-up to be throwin' down. It looks like he could join you on your commute to work or ride to school and lay down tricks that you would have never thought possible. I haven't seen many other riders that can do it like him, and no one at the same level. It makes him unique. Plus he does very well on the big stuff too. That is why I think he is such an awesome rider.
Such siiick riding, I don't reckon the filming or editing does justice. A bit ghetto to be honest, just in comparison to the riding. Still great to see someone getting rad on thier bike!
i first knew about him he was on kranked movie a few years ago... now he is on top of the world its great to see how things work out if you are good and work hard
it was defenitrly his year but sam killed it and hopefully next year is the one!
