Probably going to get negged for this, I understand the atmosphere and why they were doing it, but it really sucks to see pro MTB guys out there without helmets on...The kids look up to them, and from what I see with BMX, all the pros rarely wearing helmets, and then all the kids all the dirtjumps on BMX rarely wearing helmets, the pros influence them quite a bit....I'd hate to see all the MTB guys at the trails without helmets too. Not saying this video would cause that or anything though.
Your statement has nothing to be neg propped! I absolutely agree with you. In my mind, NOT WEARING a helmet is just showing off, although many would not agree with me... but if a rider crashes on his head, it will not make any difference if he's a pro or not. And of course, no helmet can protect you 100% but it will decrease the chance of a serious injury (or even death).
So, anyone who does not agree with either suicidedownhillers' or mine statement bring on a reasonable argument, please.
How about people be responsible parents and mind their own damned business? Is that simple enough? I'm dumbfounded that people even put expectations on riders to be "good role models". The riders are that good because they ride how they want and it works for them. Yes we all know that helmets are awesome for you but that doesn't mean you should preach what you feel is best for someone that ISN'T you. People who wear helmets are the majority and there's bad influences EVERYWHERE on kids in all aspects of life and that's where the parents come in. It's their job to raise their kids proper but that somehow always gets lost and people blame others that have no accountability in the manner whatsoever. This isn't meant to be mean or whatever, it's just something ridiculous I had to point out... raise your kids right and you don't have to worry about issues like this.
but anyways, it seems like the course is bigger this year with that first drop being intense.
Especially after Mitch Chubey is in the hospital from bailing off the first drop. Landed too far, too flat, smacked head into bars i believe. He was wearing a helmet and he's all good. If people knew how easily they could get seriously injured so easily I think everyone would all look at it different. Ive seen video of a buddy of mine bailing off a drop when he got paralyzed. Landing in a weird way is ALL it takes. Complete fluke. It was not a bad fall at all.
Well, we now know how many kids on this site don't believe in personal responsibility... or who the hell they're even watching in edits or in comps... sad.
Nowadays I never ride without my helmet. About a year ago I cased a double really bad with my front wheel, and I went flyin. I ended up coming down on the top of my head, then slamming on my back and sliding a few feet. Besides scaring the crap out of my friends, I got up a minute later feeling a little concussed, but other than that I was fine. Had I not had my helmet on, I would have easily had a fractured skull and a serious concussion. Not wearing a helmet is NOT cool. As in the machine shop, Safety First!
@scott-townes...... You are so far off it is unreal. Look at all the drug addicts out there. Did those parents give their children meth, crack, heroin and tell them to go down to Hastings street and live there? No, they did not. Are you able to understand what point I am trying to send your way?
I highly doubt that you understand what I'm saying. My point is that you SHOULDN'T have to go on these stupid crusades of stories of how a helmet saved your life or how you judge everyone else that doesn't choose to wear a helmet to be stupid or inferior to people who choose to wear helmets. My point is that if you carry on your beliefs, which are the majority by the way, to your children, then it shouldn't matter who your child looks up to, helmet-less or not. All this preaching is just a way to openly bash fellow bike riders who choose not to wear the extra protection. It's pathetic and it's just a way to brew hate among riders where it doesn't have to be. Basically my message is be responsible and you shouldn't have to resort to pointless hate among people who enjoy exactly what you do but wearing different gear... Are you guys that stupid? Hell I rarely get on a bike without a helmet and this is basic humanity and rights...
Tbh i think that wearing helmets is like a really really good idea but i dont really have a problem if pros arent wearing them, i dont want them to get hurt but its like their own choice
i headbutted a tree whilst wearing a full face helmet, iwas knocked out for a couple of minutes and was left with a nice facial scar. Old people now think im a thug and some people automaticly asume im a bad person but at least im still alive and my brain still works, i probably wouldn't of fared so well without my helmet.
what an absolout BELL-END scott-townes is . no offence. haha. but seriously . i dont think videos without helments should be allowed. as on many forums and sites. It is their job to be role models. its part of what u sign up for . what else are they getting paid for if its not for people to follow them and buy the stuff they ride and do the stuff they do. having a pissy rant cos people have stated its not on is childish !! sort it out !!
i am forever stoked until next year. on another note of being stoked, i was so stoked that my buddy and i chest bumped and broke each others sternums. hahahaha that one link is whack..
